Gemotions

The aroma of freshly baked bread filled the small apartment. Thomas hummed softly to himself, carefully spreading butter on a warm slice. Sunlight streamed through the window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. He felt no pressing need to do anything immediately.

A letter arrived, tucked between the mail. He recognized the sender's handwriting, though it had been years since he'd seen it. Curiosity flickered within him, but not a driving, demanding emotion. He set the slice of bread on a plate and went to get the mail.

He sat back down at the table, nibbling the bread, before reading the letter. The words flowed easily, expressing regrets, acknowledging wrongs. He absorbed them, then sighed contentedly. He placed the letter in the recycle bin.
